The Tung is a multi-level development located at 543-547 Elizabeth Street in Melbourne. The objective for this project was to improve the efficiency, safety, and cost-effectiveness of precast concrete panel joints. By removing 35 wet joints across 8 levels, the aim was to streamline the panel assembly process while maintaining structural integrity and aesthetic quality.
Traditional methods of assembling precast concrete panels at The Tung relied heavily on wet joints. This approach was labour-intensive, required significant on-site resources, and posed safety risks due to the need for high-level work. Additionally, wet joints extended project timelines and increased costs, as more workers were required to complete the assembly, ultimately compromising both efficiency and safety.
PSA introduced the S-Connection, an innovative and patented grouted panel-to-panel connection system designed to replace heavy cast-in plates and wet joints. This system reduced the need for labour-intensive on-site work, providing a more efficient and streamlined assembly process. Most of the connection work was completed off-site, allowing for faster installation and fewer on-site workers, resulting in improved safety and reduced project costs.
The implementation of PSA's S-Connection at The Tung led to significant improvement.
